Drake Bay is located on the Osa Peninsula. Its main town is called Agujitas, where most of the hotels of the area are located.
The best way to visit it is by sea. Entering from the town of Sierpe, you start navigating for 35 minutes on the river of the same name, enjoying the spectacular, 100% natural scenery, in the calm waters of this huge river. During this journey, sightings of various birds and some crocodiles will be frequent. After crossing from the river to the sea, it will be 20 more minutes to get to Drake Bay. There, the boat will leave you at the hotel of your choice.

Transportation options to get to Sierpe:

By car, from San Jose to Sierpe:
In order to get to Palmar Norte, you can either take the Interamerican highway (San Isidro, Perez Zeledon) or the coastal road (along the coast of Quepos and Dominical). After the bridge over the Terraba river, turn right. You will pass some banana plantations and oil palms. In Sierpe, there are safe parking places where you can leave your vehicle. You can inquire at Las Vegas restaurant or Oleaje Sereno hotel. Once having your car well taken care of, you can continue your trip in our boats.
Approximate time from San Jose to Sierpe is 5 hours.

By bus from San José to Sierpe:
TRACOPA is the bus company that travels to the south of the country. Its main terminal is located in downtown San José, Street 5, Avenue 18 and 20.

If you want to get to Drake Bay on the same day, you should take the 5am bus, which arrives to Palmar Norte at 10:30 am. Then, you should take a taxi to Sierpe. It will take you 20 more minutes. Then, you can continue your journey with us.

There are also private companies that provide transportation to Sierpe from San Jose and other destinations. These companies are: Transportes Alvarez transportes.aym@hotmail.com and www.shuttlesierpe.com.

By plane from San Jose to Palmar Sur (+ taxi to Sierpe)
Some companies offer domestic flights San José – Palmar Norte. They are: SANSA (www.flysansa.com) and AEROBELL AIRLINES (www.aerobell.com).

The flight lasts 45 minutes. Then, you take a taxi to Sierpe. It will take you 15 more minutes. Once in Sierpe, you can continue your journey with us.

Driving to Drake Bay

If you want to come driving all the way to Drake Bay, you can take the Costanera Highway, along the coast by Quepos and Dominical to Palmar Norte. Then, continue along the Panamericana highway until Chacarita, turn right into the Osa Peninsula and follow the signs to Rincón de Osa. There, turn West (right) onto the unpaved mountain road and follow the signs to Drake Bay. Once on the unpaved mountain road, adventure begins: you will find yourself passing through mountains, narrow pathways, rivers, and enjoying some fantastic jungle views. Continue on this road until you reach Agujitas Village, which is the main town of Drake Bay. We are located next to Cabinas Murillo, 300 meters from the beach, on the main road, on your left hand side.

 We highly recommend that you attempt this drive with a 4WD vehicle, only during the day and in dry season (December – April). During wet season, rivers along the road are hardly passable.

 

TRANSFERS AND TOURS

Sierpe

The boat transfer from Sierpe to Drake Bay takes about 1 hour. The first 40 minutes of the

tour are on the Sierpe River where you can enjoy the mangroves and some animals, as

crocodiles and birds.

After crossing the river’s mouth, we will be navigating on the sea for 20 more minutes. Every guest will be dropped off on his or her hotel.

It is important to note, it is a wet landing so, wear shoes easy to remove, sandals or water shoes.

 

From Monday to Sunday, our boats have the following schedule:

Sierpe – Drake 11:30am

Drake – Sierpe 7:15 am

 

Rates:

For foreigners: $15 per person, per way.

For Costa Rican people and Residents: 5000 colones, per person, per way.
