Located 13 miles off the coast of Drake Bay and the Osa Peninsula, Caño Island boasts clear and vibrant tropical waters, volcanic rock formations, canyons, and pinnacles adorned with colorful hard and soft coral, making it a diver’s paradise.
The island is home to an abundance of marine life year-round, from colorful reef and pelagic fish to schools of whitetip reef sharks, nurse sharks, and whale sharks. You’ll also encounter a variety of rays, including manta rays, eagle rays, mobula rays, cow rays, and more, as well as several species of sea turtles. Exploring the rock formations, you may spot a diverse range of creatures such as blennies, frogfish, harlequin shrimp (clown shrimp), different species of eels, and even the elusive octopus that inhabit the waters around Caño Island. Massive schools of barracuda, horse-eye jacks, milkfish, as well as vibrant groups of grunts, snappers, and Porkfish, along with an assortment of tropical fish like damselfish, wrasse, king angelfish, Moorish idols, and many others are waiting to be discovered.
